Send EPSILON-3 up to Space with Cheer

JAXA is inviting all to write notes to cheer on the project members and the mission of Epsilon-3, to be launched this fiscal year. The project members of the past series of Epsilon launches have drawn strength from the similar campaigns. The notes sent to JAXA will be printed as part of the decal (sticker) attached to the body of the launch vehicle. JAXA appreciates the positive participation by many. Application Deadline: 5 pm (JST), August 2, 2017 ...

JAXA has updated the launch date of the third Epsilon Launch Vehicle (Epsilon-3) which encapsulates the second Advanced Small-size Radar Satellite (ASNARO-2)*. The Epsilon-3 launch, originally scheduled for November 12, 2017, was postponed as its electrical system needed further confirmation. JAXA has identified and taken countermeasures against the factor that delayed the launch. Refer to the following reschedule details;

Launch Date:
January 17, 2018
Launch Time:
Approximately 6 a.m. through 6:35 a.m. (Japan Standard Time)

Epsilon-3 launch vehicle unveiled

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, JAXA, has unveiled the Epsilon-3 launch vehicle that will carry an advanced small radar satellite into space next week.
The 26-meter rocket was moved to the launch site at JAXA's Uchinoura Space Center in the southern prefecture of Kagoshima on Wednesday.
It is scheduled to lift off on Wednesday next week, with the Earth observation satellite ASNARO-2 on board.
The Japan-made rocket can be launched for around 35 million dollars, about half the cost of conventional small rockets.
Launching ASNARO-type small satellites, which weigh 300 to 600 kilograms, is likely to become a profitable business.
About 5 launches per year overseas are expected, starting in 2020.
JAXA is hoping the Epsilon-3 project leads to foreign business contracts.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said Monday it will postpone the Wednesday launch of its third Epsilon solid-fuel rocket due to expected bad weather.

The space agency now aims to launch the three-stage, 26-meter rocket from Uchinoura Space Center in the town of Kimotsuki, Kagoshima Prefecture, on Thursday morning, at the earliest.

JAXA made the decision because lightning is forecast to threaten the region on Wednesday. Electronic equipment on the rocket may malfunction if struck by lightning, JAXA officials said.

The rocket is set to put an advanced and low-cost Asnaro-2 radar satellite into orbit.
