Russian-German space observatory Spektr-RG will be launched at the end of 2016 or beginning of 2017, Russian aerospace company NPO Lavochkin said in a statement on Thursday.

"The mission is expected to be launched at the end of 2016 or beginning of 2017," the statement, released after a session of designers and manufacturers who participate in the joint Russian-German space project, said.

The Spektr-RG astrophysics observatory, equipped with five telescopes spanning the energy range from the far ultraviolet to the hard X-ray, is intended to study interplanetary magnetic fields, galaxies, black holes.
