Scrub! SpaceX Falcon 9 launch canceled just 23 seconds before liftoff from Cape Canaveral
Update 11:55 p.m. EDT Sunday: SpaceX crews scrubbed the countdown of tonight's Starlink 6-22 mission just 23 seconds before the Falcon 9 rocket was scheduled to lift off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, citing upper-level winds. Target launch time is now 8:42 p.m. EDT Monday.
Original coverage: Welcome to FLORIDA TODAY's Space Team live coverage of SpaceX's Falcon 9 Starlink 6-22 mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
SpaceX is now targeting 11:38 p.m. EDT for launch of a Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. A batch of 22 Starlink internet satellites is packed inside the 230-foot rocket's payload fairing.
After soaring skyward along a southeastern trajectory, the Falcon 9's first stage booster is set to target a drone ship landing out at sea about 8½ minutes after liftoff. No local sonic booms expected.
When SpaceX's live webcast hosted on X (formerly Twitter) becomes available about five minutes before liftoff, it will be posted at the top of this page.
Update 11:46 p.m. EDT: "Standing down from tonight’s Falcon 9 launch attempt due to upper level winds," SpaceX officials just announced via X (formerly Twitter).
Update 11:40 p.m. EDT: SpaceX called a "countdown hold" 23 seconds before launch.
No official explanation has been given yet.
Update 11:28 p.m. EDT: SpaceX crews continue to aim for an 11:38 p.m. EDT Falcon 9 launch for the Starlink 6-22 mission.
Update 11:15 p.m. EDT: Just more than 20 minutes before SpaceX's scheduled 11:38 p.m. EDT Falcon 9 launch, the countdown appears to be proceeding as planned and fueling is well underway at Launch Complex 40.
As a reminder, a list of key upcoming countdown milestones:
- 7 minutes: Falcon 9 begins engine chill prior to launch.
- 1 minute: Command flight computer begins final prelaunch checks; propellant tank pressurization to flight pressure begins.
- 45 seconds: SpaceX launch director verifies “go” for launch.
- 3 seconds: Engine controller commands engine ignition sequence to start.
- 00:00:00: Falcon 9 liftoff.
Update 11:06 p.m. EDT: Falcon 9 fueling procedures are now underway, and SpaceX has announced "all systems and weather are currently go for launch."
The Starlink 6-22 mission is now committed to lift off at 11:38 p.m. EDT, or else the launch must be postponed.
SpaceX's overnight Falcon 9 rocket launch was a success
SpaceX is planning to launch a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base overnight.
The launch is scheduled for 12:23 a.m. on Monday.
The Falcon 9 launch will carry 21 Starlink satellites to low-earth orbit. Following stage separation, the first stage will land on the "Of Course I Still Love You" droneship, which will be stationed in the Pacific Ocean.
If needed, four backup opportunities are available starting at 1:14 a.m. until 3:46 a.m.
A live webcast of this mission will begin about five minutes prior to liftoff.
