The Port of Long Beach welcomed the SpaceX drone ship “Of Course I Still Love You” Tuesday morning, July 6, when it arrived on a transport ship.
The journey began on the East Coast two weeks ago and included passage through the Panama Canal.
Once the drone ship gets offloaded, it will be based at Pier T, where it be part of recovery operations for the Starlink landings that potentially could occur in late July or early August from Vandenberg Space Force Base.
In April, the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners approved a sublease allowing the Hawthorne aerospace firm to use a marine terminal in port for its West Coast rocket recovery operations.
SpaceX opened the facility the next month on about 6.5 acres at the Port of Long Beach’s Pier T, which was once the site of a U.S. Navy complex. The company will use the site’s existing wharf to dock its vessels and offload equipment, according to a statement from port officials.
SpaceX previously had conducted rocket recovery operations from the neighboring Port of Los Angeles.
