The Soyuz-2.1b carrier vehicle with the Resurs-P Earth No. 4 remote sensing satellite has blasted off the Baikonur Spaceport at 12:37 p.m. Moscow time (9:37 a.m. GMT).

According to Roscosmos, the satellite will enter its intended orbit nine and a half minutes after the takeoff.

The Resurs-P Earth No. 4 remote sensing satellite launched from the Baikonur Spaceport on the Soyuz-2.1b carrier vehicle has successfully entered its intended orbit, Roscosmos said.

The rocket carrying the satellite blasted off at 12:37 p.m. Moscow time (9:37 a.m. GMT).

Resurs-P is a series of Russian satellites designed for the remote sensing of the Earth, as well as the regional and local monitoring of its surface. They are distinguished by ultra-high spatial resolution - less than a meter per pixel. The vehicles are also equipped with a rational polynomial camera (a tool for increasing the accuracy and speed of data processing) and have stereoscopic shooting capabilities for creating 3D models.

The information received by the Resurs-P satellite is used to study natural resources, monitor pollution and environmental degradation, and monitor water protection and protected areas. The data obtained can be used to develop Russia’s international cooperation in the field of environmental control and protection and solve other pressing issues of the remote sensing of the Earth.
