Astronomie - LUNAR OCCULTATION OF MARS

15.04.2021

Mars is about to vanish behind the mountains of the Moon. On April 17th, the crescent Moon will pass in front of the Red Planet, hiding Mars for as much as an hour. Spaceweather.com reader Peter Zimnikoval created this visibility map:

The occultation occurs at night across much of southeast Asia. It is a twilight event in India--possibly visible in backyard telescopes--and a broad daylight washout in the Middle East and Africa.

"The next occultation of Mars will be visible from only a small part of Mongolia and Russia on December 3rd of this year," says Zimnikoval. So we don't want to miss this one.
